How long will it take CloudZow to back up my computer?

The time it takes to upload your files to the CloudZow server is dependent on several things:

  1. The upload speed of your internet connection
  2. The size and number of files on your computer
  3. Whether you have chosen to encrypt the files during transfer (they are always encrypted when they reach our servers)
  4. In cases where you have an older computer, the actual resources that computer has available to run the software.
  5. '

In best case scenarios, with a fast upload connection and a small number of files, CloudZow can finish uploading your complete initial backup in days. In typical instances, where you have an average connection and number of files, CloudZow may take more than a week to complete the initial backup. If your connection's upload speed is below average, and you have a decent amount of files, it could take more than a month. In this case, we suggest limiting your files being backed up to those that are essential.

Once the initial backup is complete, CloudZow will only upload new or changed files, and will utilize less resources than on the initial upload.

Can I back up my iPad, iPhone, Android Tablet, or other mobile device with CloudZow?

CloudZow does not directly back up these devices, but you can easily back up (sync) your mobile device's files to your desktop or laptop computer and then backup those files up with CloudZow.

CloudZow does not currently plan on offering a mobile device backup product.

How do I backup my Outlook Email?

To backup your Outlook PST file to CloudZow you must select, for backup, the folder that contains the PST file.

To back up your Outlook email you will need to locate that PST file(s):

For Outlook 2010
- Start Outlook 2010
- Click the File tab in the Ribbon, and then click the Info tab on the menu
- Click the Account Settings tab
- Click Account Settings again
- Click Data Files
Note down the path and file name of your .pst file. For example, C:\Exchange\Mailbox.pst indicates a .pst file that is named Mailbox.pst located in the Exchange folder on your C: Drive
- Click Close, click OK

For Outlook 2002 through Outlook 2007
- Start Outlook
- On the Tools menu, click Options
- On the Mail Setup tab, click the Data Files button
Note down the path and file name of your .pst file. For example, C:\Exchange\Mailbox.pst indicates a .pst file that is named Mailbox.pst located in the Exchange folder on your C: Drive
- Click Close, click OK

Once you have the location of the PST file, navigate to the folder in Windows Explorer, and then right-click the folder and choose ‘Backup with CloudZow Backup’.

Please note that you can only backup emails where they are stored on your computer.

If you use an Exchange server for your email, you will have a .ost file on your local machine and this file cannot be backed up with CloudZow because your emails are stored on the Exchange mail server and not locally on that machine. That server would (and should) need to be backed up separately.

My Outlook (or other program) keeps crashing or causing errors since CloudZow was installed. What's going on?

CloudZow needs access to the files and folders you have chosen to back up in order to send them to our servers. If a program, such as Outlook, has files locked while the program is open, CloudZow cannot back that file up and you may receive an error.

This is similar to trying to move or delete a word/text document (or any other file) while it is open in another program. The operating system's file system will not allow this because it would corrupt the file.

We recommend scheduling CloudZow to only back up during the hours that you are able to close the offending programs so that it can access the files. Alternatively, you can back up the offending files separately and deselect them from your CloudZow backup. For Outlook, the files that are likely causing this access error are those with the ".pst" extension.

Can CloudZow backup external hard drives?

Yes, but there are a few important things to note when doing so.

You can use CloudZow Backup with external USB drives as long as they retain the same drive letter (on Windows PCs) or mount point (on Mac computers).

As Backup is a live copy of data that exists on a physical drive. It is possible for external HDD to be backed up and the data retained after the drive has been detached. However if this is not done correctly or the drive is replaced then it is possible to remove the previously uploaded files from our servers.

In some cases it is possible for a drive to remain mounted and still appear as attached after being unplugged from your computer. In this situation our software recognizes that the drive now contains no folders and hence the deletion starts. When removing an external Hard drive always be sure to follow the correct procedure for detaching that device based on you Operating system

Ensure also that you let the scan totally complete before unplugging the device. If you unplug during a scan then it will start the deleting.

If plugging in a different external HDD you need to ensure that the drive letter or mount point is not re-assigned otherwise CloudZow will see this as the same drive but with all data removed and will begin deleting the data from the Backup set stored on the servers.

How do I see or access my files once they are backed up?

You can access and download your backed up files from anywhere with an internet connection by logging in to http://m.cloudzow.net with that computer's registered email address and password.

Alternatively, from the computer you have the software on, you can click on the CloudZow icon in your system tray and select "Web Portal". Once the web portal opens, if you click on the "Backup" button on the navigation bar, you can drill down into your computer's files in the same structure that they exist on your computer.

Please note that files with a red square in the top left corner indicate that that file is in the upload queue but has not been uploaded to the server yet. You cannot view this file until it has been fully uploaded.

Are my files secure with CloudZow?

CloudZow takes the security of its customer's and affiliate's confidential information very serious.

All customer data backed up to our servers is stored with military grade AES-256 encryption, and can only be accessed by the account holder. Each file is stored redundantly, on multiple servers in multiple physical data centers that are in different geographical locations. These data centers exist behind industry-standard enterprise firewalls and network security, have redundant power and network connections, are resistant to all but the worst possible natural disasters, and are secured with multiple layers of physical security.

There is the option to encrypt files during the actual file transfer (128-bit encryption) as well. This encryption is similar to that used when you access your bank account online and can be turned on in the "Bandwidth" tab of the CloudZow settings. It is deselected by default because it does slow down the backup process considerably.
